- Within pastoral psychotherapy for Christian women who are in abusive relationships, the use of biblical materials often emerges as a critical therapeutic issue that blocks growth and empowerment of women. This project examines two critical biblical themes of human sinfulness and the principle of male domination/female submission. Through a women's Bible study and discussion group the project investigates these themes and the women's relationship with the Bible. Using a feminist critique and object-relations theory, the project concludes that destructive understandings of biblical messages are slowly changed through relationships that value women and believe in their empowerment.
