Abstract
  • Three out of four American wives will be widowed in their lifetime and remain in a state of widowhood for an average of eighteen years. In our high tech society the evangelical church has neglected the care of widows by relegating much of its responsibility to secular agencies. This project is a summons to the church to return to the biblical priority of caring for widows in practical ways. Using personal interviews, surveys, statistical analysis, as well as traditional methods of research, the author sought to determine exactly how serious the problem of neglect toward widows is, what their needs are, and how the church might begin a viable ministry to address these needs. The practical result of this work was the production of a manual for churches and relatives of widows to use in preparing caregivers to assist widows in their plight.
