  • The thesis of this project states that a demographic study of the community provides information on present unmet community needs and helps the local congregation adjust their ministry priorities to meet those needs. Census data from within the church membership is compared to community census data. Attitudes and feelings are measured by comparing a church member focus group with a focus group of community people not members of the church. This study finds that rural congregations can do quality evaluations of their communities. It also shows that declining churches often fail to keep up with present community needs.
