  • This thesis compares the author's contract for communication in preaching with the preaching contract of members of Redeemer Lutheran Church, DeSoto, Missouri. The author contends that by teaching one's contract for communication in preaching to the congregation, the listener will be able to perceive in advance the import of a forthcoming message. Such teaching and preparation enables more effective listening to sermons and better equips the listener for ministry. Questionnaires, lesson plans, and statistical analyses are included which demonstrate how sermon design can be taught in order to enable listening and enhance ministry for the listener.
