  • A challenge facing the local church is the missional task of discerning the missio Dei the church is called to join. This research project proposes the possibility that an experience of the community surrounding a particular church can serve to knit the congregation together with the missio Dei. In this project, the story of Jacob's ladder, mission theology, and theoretical concepts of education are used to analyze a structured small group learning experience in which the members personally investigate their surrounding neighborhood in order to discern a vision of the missio Dei the group members' church is called to join.
