  • This dissertation translates current neurolinguistic programming and learning modality research into terminology applicable to preaching in the church and explores the biblical and theological foundations for its application. The project gathered a group of pastors who: 1) identified their primary modality for receiving and processing information; 2) became aware of other modalities; and 3) attempted to compose and deliver sermons which addressed all three types of sensory dominance among the people of their congregations. Neurolinguistic programming and modality strengths from the fields of therapy and education were the springboards for the overall dissertation. The related topics of communication theory, hermeneutics, homilectical theory and practice, rhetoric (specifically metaphors), and parable were also explored.
