- The thesis question of this dissertation is, 'What can pastors, church leaders and parachurch ministries and their leaders communicate, relate and do in order to prevent developing unbalanced disciples of Jesus Christ and to assure that those influenced and trained by their respective ministries will be balanced followers of Christ, disciples who reflect truth, love and righteousness in their personal lives and walks with Christ?' The dissertation will analyze various philosophies of ministry which lead to producing imbalanced disciples of Christ, study the First Epistle of John for Biblical principles of balanced discipleship, observe historical precedents from the Reformed tradition, critique some present day discipleship approaches, summarize a survey of church and parachurch ministry leaders and finally, propose some solutions for the thesis question. The dissertation consists of six chapters and a summary of these chapters is included in the Introduction.
