  • This study focuses on a pastor's perspective on the nature and work of the Holy Spirit. To clarify the author's views, the work of six theologians across their denominational persuasions was studied. The study revealed that published positions of the theologians did not differ as much as current practices among various churches. After a biblical study on the Holy Spirit and the selected literature of the theologians had been reviewed, the author wrote an essay presenting his own views enriched by this study. The mainline churches and the new Pentecostal churches need each other, so that no aspect of the work and nature of the Holy Spirit will be neglected or over-emphasized. What is needed is balance and openness. We especially need an understanding that the Holy Spirit shapes the church and not the church the Holy Spirit. It is the author's hope that this study illuminates the Holy Spirit at the point where the divergent avenues of thought intersect.
