Abstract
  • The purpose of this project is to evaluate the issue of church indebtedness from a biblical and practical standpoint. The first part is historical and critical, explaining the views of recent authors who have opposed all church debt and offering a biblical and practical critique of those views. Then all the biblical passages relevant to indebtedness are exegeted and interpreted. The conclusions presented are that the Scriptures do not forbid borrowing for individuals and it is inconsistent to allow borrowing for individuals but not for churches. The final section of the project offers nine practical guidelines to help churches that decide to borrow do so wisely.
