  • This project conducts a random survey of members of churches in the area of Cleveland, Ohio, seeking to understand and assess beliefs and attitudes concerning death. Physicians, nurses, clergy, and selected church members also complete the survey. Age is the chief factor in differences of attitude. Analysis of responses indicates that the role of churches in ministry to the dying and the bereaved needs to be restructured, and seminaries should better prepare clergy for this ministry.
