  • This project led Blue River Baptist Church to articulate their congregational identity in story form to better understand their implicit goals and guiding principles. The project adapted Jackson Carroll and James Hopewell's process for congregational study using both research instruments and guided interviews with small groups to develop a church's identity story. A theoretical base for using story in local church ministry was presented. A narrative of the small group's interaction and reaction to the production of a story of identity was provided. Though the project was not a complete success, the story produced did provide insight into important principles guiding the congregation that may not have been gleaned from research instruments alone.
