  • This project seeks to learn the vocabulary, grammar, and accents of students who self-identify as atheist or agnostic and to begin to imagine how church-related colleges can help them grow in their spiritual lives. The project is based on interviews of seventeen college students by a college chaplain at a Presbyterian, liberal arts college. The report uses quotes from the interviews to develop a portrait of these students, offers analysis based in young adult developmental theories and studies of young adult spirituality, and suggests steps that college chaplains can take to better serve this cohort.
