- Abstract
- This Action Research project explored fundamentals of leadership among Alaska's Ahtna people based on a theological foundation of spiritual and cultural identity and a System Theory perspective of leadership development. The interactive research process led to a mentoring event for young men conducted by emerging Ahtna leaders. The project resulted in the discovery of factors that encourage culturally appropriate leadership formation: (1) a contextualized understanding of leadership, (2) the role of culture and community in the leadership formation process, (3) recognition and response to cataclysmic experiences, and (4) the importance of faith and a developing sense of spiritual identity.
