- 'Small churches can't do mission!' Not true. Granted, by themselves, smaller congregations may lack all of the resources required for local mission, but when several small congregations combine their dreams and abilities, dynamic local mission is not only possible, it should be expected. Using a rural Kansas neighborhood, the paper addresses the sociological and biblical themes of identifying one's neighbor. Then, an evaluation of the small town and a local church congregation is elaborately chronicled through a series of dialogues and reflective processes. This paper presents a rural community's concepts of change, power, authority and leadership, with the distinction of perceived and real leadership.
