- The purpose of this practicum is to develop a theological focus for New Thought Christian Church concerning social responsibility. The practicum was developed over a twelve-week period of time. This is an intensive laity involvement project. Three committees of twenty lay people from Christ Church Dallas became involved in examining a national corporation whose AIDS program was a benefit to the community, helping HIV/AIDS victims through AIDS Interfaith, Inc, and working directly with an emergency shelter for abused and runaway teenagers. Although the main goal was to develop a theology of social responsibility, the laity and minister became actively committed to a ministry of compassion dealing with local injustices. Emphasis was placed on an empowered, innovative and active laity who were given authority to create the mission and role of the church.
