  • The exercise of creativity enhances the function of imagination in sermon preparation, resulting in more interesting proclamation. A process for enhancing creativity in sermon preparation is developed based upon a prototypical approach to Scripture, associational models of imagination and current creativity theory. Called the Religious Imagination Spiritual Creativity exercise or RISC, this seven-step process is used by several preachers for sermon preparation and is evaluated by lay persons as to its effects on proclamation. The results indicate the ability of preachers to create more interesting proclamation through attention to the imaginative exercise of creativity in sermon preparation.
