  • The biblical notion of community portrays the church called by God to be a caring and witnessing community of faith in the world. To fulfill its call, the local congregation must be intentional about its ministry. The church must become a center for developing servant and caring discipleship. By expecting people to care, challenging them to care, and providing opportunities to care, the local congregation can help persons grow in faith and become a powerful witness for Jesus Christ. The shepherd ministry program designed in this paper is an example of how the local congregation can move in the direction of becoming a center for discipleship.
