  • This study of the union of three major churches in Australia examines the human forces that coalesced to bring it about and contrary forces that caused a large section of the Presbyterian Church to remain out of the union. The meaning of the reconciling gospel and the influence of theological leaders, are shown to be major factors in the church union process. Resistance to change, tradition, lack of clear leadership and confusion in voting procedures were factors responsible for the anti-union movement. Methods of introducing major change and of encouraging corporate decision making are outlined.
