  • The purpose of this study was to discover if personality type affects people's preferences for styles of prayer. The prayer styles reflected the functions of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. In 73 percent of the cases, participants found a prayer style they preferred. Levels of comfort, a sense of God's presence, and the style's similarity to prayer patterns utilized prior to the study were the strongest determinants of preference. The author concludes that teaching people a variety of prayer styles is beneficial to spiritual growth. Value can be found in being sensitive to personality type when suggesting prayer styles.
