  • The purpose of this project was to determine the nature of the God-images of alcoholics, and to correlate these images with the degree of difficulty the alcoholics had accepting the third step in the Alcoholics Anonymous Twelve Step Recovery Program. In accepting the third step the alcoholic states that he or she has made a decision 'to turn my life and will over to the care of God as I understand Him.' The author tested the alcoholics with Gorsuch's Adjective Check List and Justice's Family and God Survey. The data revealed that fourteen alcoholics out of the eighty-three tested had harsh God-images. There was a negative correlation between their God-image and the degree of acceptance of AA's third step.
