  • A long distance move is a disruptive experience that exposes limitations and possibilities for a married couple. By clarifying and following what is promising in the marital commitment and in the new community, marital partners may develop personal contacts, integrate the move into their personal and marital goals and decrease marital stress. The author implements Juergen Moltmann's theology of hope into a ten week program of workshops and field trips for seven couples who have moved recently. Evaluations indicate an increased integration into the community, a decreased sense of loss, increased community hope, increased marital hope and more productive methods of managing marital stress.
