  • Women continue to have difficulty being placed in pastoral positions in mid- to large-size churches. Women may not be adequately prepared to assume such leadership positions. Power and authority are important issues identified by women in pastoral ministry. Feminist understandings of power and authority are examined from theological, historical and psychological perspectives. Principles of a feminist theory and theology of leadership are applied to case studies of women currently ministering in solo pastor, senior pastor and co-pastor positions. A feminist framework can provide women with analytical skills necessary to understand issues of power and authority in ministry.
