Abstract
  • This dissertation considers the biblical and theological roots for the ministry of women, the story of women in American church life and the present context for women in ministry in church and society. Using data collected from interviews with female seminarians along with questionnaires to, and interviews with, ordained United Church of Christ women, the paper describes their expectations, experiences and coping skills. A 'Survival guide' using these insights is then offered as a resource for clergywomen. Finally, there are reflections on strengthening and supporting United Church of Christ women serving in parish ministry.
