  • When preachers interact imaginately with biblical texts during sermon preparation, they experince the Bible's images, characters, and messages in fruitful ways that enliven their preaching. This thesis presents a simple imaginative writing exercise that enables preachers to attend more fully to scripture with heart, mind, and soul. The exercise precedes and complements scholarly exegesis. It contributes to preaching which is vivid, passionate, concrete, and firmly grounded in scripture. Included are directions for the imaginative writing exercise; descriptions of its reception among parish members and local clergy; and suggestions for using the exercise in individual and group settings.
