  • Changes in the common faith and practice in twenty-first century BGC churches: an ethnographic study of Baptist General Conference churches in the South Puget Sound
Abstract
  • Baptist General Conference principles of faith and practice were delineated by Dr. Gordon Johnson in 1957. His book, My church, established the parameters of these principles. A church in the 21st century has many influences such as post-modernity, mega-churches, and the loss of denominational identity. Church leaders could use some insight into the current state of Baptist faith and practice. Shocking changes have occurred in the past five decades. This dissertation is specifically written for church leaders. It features a timely perspective on the current reality of Baptist faith and practice. This study is presented in five parts: why study Baptist faith and practice; literature that stimulated this study; research findings from pastoral interviews; interpretation of the survey data; and the final summary.
