  • This dissertation/project informs pastors schooled in 'academic-cosmopolitan' urban seminaries about the presence of 'local folk' in many Presbyterian Church (USA) congregations in the rural Midwest so that these pastors may be better equipped to serve rural churches. Many academic-cosmopolitan ministers are unaware of the positive presence and contributions of 'local folks' in rural churches. Only about two to ten perecent of USA adults are 'academic-cosmopolitans.' The author's research, interviews and personal experience suggest that academic pastors often do not relate well to locals who may be up to sixty percent of the USA adult population. This dissertation/project helps cosmopolitan pastors identify 'local folks' so they can better relate to the locals found in most rural churches.
