  • This project reports the desecration of First United Methodist Church (Glendale, Calif), reflects on services rendered to the church by the Glendale community, and suggests ways to develop broad-based, volunteer, community organizations to address intolerance and hate-related violence. Drawing on the experience of the church, the Consultation on Christian Ministry in the Midst of Hate and Violence held in Saint Louis (21-22 July 1995), and development of the Hate Crime Response Team in Glendale, the project proposes a new paradigm for social ministry by churches and church members to present a social witness for tolerance and justice.
