  • This project proposes that a community that seeks to be creative and lifegiving must respect and encourage differentiation of individuals and provide a safe environment for them to express differences. Drawing on the insights of family systems theory, particularly the concept of self-differentiation, the project focuses on the experiences of North American Mennonites, who in many ways have integrated into the surrounding culture but are still strongly influenced by the theology and practices of their tradition. The project intends to encourage self-differentiation among selected members of a Mennonite congregation whose experience should increase the level of self-differentiation among the rest of the congregation.
