Abstract
  • The goal of this project was to restore the self-esteem of small membership churches through district events for lay and clergy leaders. Chapter one explores the character and fate of small membership churches in the twenty-first century. Chapter two reviews the history of small membership United Methodist churches in Maine. Chapter three introduces the district conference project, defines holy conferencing, and details the three events in the Mid-Maine District where transformation tools were taught to small membership churches. Chapter four evaluates the project, makes recommendations for adjustments to the project, and details another model to explore on the Mid-Maine District.
