- Evangelism is a stigmatized word in the Air Force chaplaincy. it is avoided due to its connotation of quasi-denominational proselytizing or over-zealous demands, for instance, conversion. The author examines the biblical and theological mandate for mission as this mandate applies to the Air Force chaplaincy. He compares a variety of methodologies, including church growth materials. The author concludes that the military chapel community is part of the body of Christ and has the obligation and opportunity to witness. Two of the important discoveries are that laypersons prefer faith sharing to evangelism and that the smorgasbord approach will allow for greater participation and use of the variety of the gifts in the church.
