- This project explores the eschatological dimensions of weekly worship services as a source of hope to the Church. The author develops a theology of hopeful worship, based on the understanding that in worship we participate in a Messianic banquet already begun in the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Beginning with a review of current literature about eschatological dimensions of worship, the author describes major authors in the field, their issues, and their insights. The project constructs a theology of hopeful worship based on eschatological dimensions of regular weekly worship services, sacraments of baptism and the Eucharist, and a liturgical calendar. The author concludes that concentration on eschatological dimensions of worship makes those who worship aware not only of the 'end times' but also of the nearness of Christ. Realizing the presence of Christ in worship can potentially transform those who worship into those who base their hope on Christ's life, death, and future.
