Abstract
  • As churches grow from pastoral to program size, the sense of spiritual intimacy and belonging within the lay, faith community of worshipping disciples is often diminished. This project provides a model for creating a ministry of lay pastoral care for all congregational members through a small group ministry of pastoral caregivers, a priesthood of all believers. Intimate, spiritual support for the lay caregivers in this ministry is offered through group spiritual direction. This model, designed by exploring the needs of one program sized congregation, offers a structure that reclaimed a sense of intimacy and sacred belonging within the community of faith.
