  • Historically a sacramental perception of body has been obscured by opposing spirit and matter in religious awareness and practice. Process thought and personal experience become the tools to affirm the sacredness of the human body as a holy, valuing presence. This ministerial project includes an initial workshop designed to enhance individuals' appreciation of their biological, psychological and religious aspects in relation to their total environment. One instrument assesses body appreciation before the workshop, another afterwards. Although no change can be demonstrated, a high degree of participant satisfaction emerges. The document details both theology and methods. Follow-up discussion provides suggestions for adaptations in evaluation tools and workshop formats, and offers implications for the basic dynamics of mutual presence in ministry.
