Abstrait

The thesis of this project is that 'success' in the pastoral counseling process is directly proportional to the counselee's level of personal involvement in a faith community. The research, accomplished through mail-out questionnaires and personal interviews, also considers the impact on the counselor/client relationship of a pastoral counselor's performance of other clergy roles in a local church that sponsors a parish-based counseling ministry. Results confirmed that counselees who are active church members respond more positively to pastoral counseling than inactive or unchurched counselees. However, the performance of other clergy roles by the counselor did not have a negative effect on the counseling process. Pastoral identity of the counselor was a primary factor in the counselee's choice of pastoral counseling.
