This project adapts a secular model of leadership proposed by James M Kouzes and Barry Z Posner for use in developing leadership potential of a congregation's board of deacons. In that model the project finds five practices of leadership--inspiring a shared vision, modeling, enabling, encouraging, and challenging the system--that are highly compatible with biblical and theological norms claimed by congregationally governed churches.
