  • This project examines the God-image of eight women who were raised in homes where at least one parent was an aloholic. Of interest is the God-image, one of many other object relations created by a child while in relationship with the alcoholic parent. This image of God persists throughout life unless either events or personal effort causes it to change. Based upon this image, a person forms characteristics of God that profoundly affect the way she/he relates to God and the environment. Each subject was asked questions from modified and abbreviated Rizzuto 'Family' and 'God' questionnaires. After answering questions about each parent, the subjects were asked to mark sixteen word-pairs in accordance with how they related to each one. Finally, they were asked questions about God and marked sixteen identical word-pairs. The results supported the hypothesis that the characteristics of God that these women formed as children were similar to the characteristics of their alcoholic parent.
