- An urgent challenge exists from African Independent Churches to western-oriented missions and churches to be relevant in addressing everyday needs in the African community and so to give a biblical alternative to the claims of African traditional religion and the influence of secularism. Signs and wonders have a place in demonstrating God's presence and possession of his people in total blessing and total demand. Principles of the Kingdom of God form the basis of the study which points to the relevance of signs and wonders, especially healing, in the life of the church. Independent church movements are examined in this light. .
