  • Judicatory personnel are in a strategic position to respond to congregation and pastor conflict. The thesis of this paper is twofold: 1) that a trained and working pastoral relations committee in a congregationally governed local church can be effective in resolving conflict between a congregation and pastor; 2) that judicatory personnel can be third-party consultants who train and work with the pastoral relations committee in collaborative intervention. The study brings together the disciplines of theology, history and applied social sciences to analyze and propose appropriate interventions into conflict. It recognizes the particular context of a Baptist congregation and the polity of its denomination. An analysis of the learnings concludes the study.
