  • This thesis proposes that the mission of the church to 'proclaim and share Christ' is grounded in the church's participation in the Eucharist and the 'sending' that follows. This missionary incentive is supported by the preaching ministry of the church. Three types of sermons are suggested as best suited to support this missionary incentive, including mystagogical preaching, apologetic preaching and missional preaching. The intended purpose is that listeners of such sermons will develop a stronger connection between their participation in the Table and what it means to be sent for mission and ministry in the world. This project was completed as part of the Association of Chicago Theological Schools (ACTS) Doctor of Ministry in Preaching Program.
