- The assumptions of institutions and human services regarding the humanity of the disabled are distorted and dehumanizing. The church's understanding of humanity that accords with the biblical Imago Dei realized in Jesus Christ provides the necessary corrective. It is consistent with the church's mission to extend its fellowship to all people. Historical research and personal observation point to the inadequacy of the institutional and human services approach. The project includes church volunteers and persons with disabilities.
