  • Pastoral visitation is studied biblically and historically. Fifteen pastors and twenty-eight parishioners were interviewed concerning pastoral visitation. There are biblical and historical reasons for the pastor to visit parishioners to share the Christian faith and to give spiritual guidance. The majority of the pastors interviewed visit in hospitals and homes where there is illness or crisis, but not routinely all parishioners. Parishioners want this pastor to visit them regularly, but by appointment. They want the visit to be social. Only half of the parishioners interviewed want or expect the minister to visit to give spiritual guidance.
