  • This thesis argues for contextualizing United Methodist worship for Liberians which is currently deeply rooted in Western culture since it was started by American missionaries and freed African slaves from America. United Methodist worship was studied in classes held with the pastors and laity of Gompa District followed with evaluations. Other venues included Sunday School classes, Bible studies, focus groups and interviews. The research conclusion: the Holy Spirit's leadership in worship, laity's active role in worship, Liberians worshipping God through their cultural garment, and worship expressed in the local language equals worship that meets members' needs.
