Abstracto

Sexual misconduct betrays the trust between pastor and parishoners. Betrayal extends to the parishioner's trust in God. Clergy who follow such cases of misconduct find a disillusioned, confused, and hostile congregation. The author delineates such congregational dynamics from the perspective of after pastors in Wisconsin and Illinois. Books by Marie Fortune and Peter Rutter describe the interpersonal dynamics between abuser and victim. The author proposes a number of pastoral skills needed for the healing of such a congregation. These skills and insights can promote healing in a congregation and effect a renewed relationship with God, one another, and pastor.
