- The community of the author's church, Bethlehem Baptist Church in the eastern suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, had experienced ethnic change. To learn to grow again, case studies were conducted on two multi-ethnic Southern Baptist churches that included interviews with the pastors, congregational questionnaires, participant observation, and a review of church records. Four hypotheses or needs proved for the multi-ethnic church were (1) the imperative of a strong vision and passion for the pastor, (2) that vision to see him through a critical time of transition, (3) broadening the worship style to reflect others' traditions, and (4) patience in dealing with cultural differences.
