Abstrait

The paper postulates that the definition of marriage, as the experience of reciprocal belonging, along with the editing of the oppressive features in some key theological concepts will produce healthier marriages and healthier congregations. Included are a reflection on system theory, theological and psychological reflections and biblical analysis that challenges traditional beliefs about marriage and divorce. Questionnaires were used successfully to elicit the marital experiences of people in the writer's pastoral charge. Narrative and cognitive behavior therapies are set forth as approaches that can help to heal the wounded in congregations. This document is a resource to help pastors to better preach, teach, and counsel on matters of marriage, divorce, and remarriage in the Christian community.
