  • Pastors who maintain counseling case records, seek out case consultation experiences, and effectively utilize referral resources will experience an increased sense of confidence and competence in the counseling role in parish ministry. This thesis was explored using two methods of data collection: a series of case consultation meetings involving two separate clergy groups; and a survey of 228 Michigan clergy. Results demonstrated that pastors who keep records, consult with others, and are connected to a network of referral resources rate themselves as more confident and competent in their counseling role than those who do not engage in these activities.
