  • This project developed and evaluated a theologically and psychologically based program for professional caregivers who experience stress reactions when working with clients who have experienced violence. The program assessed caregiver's stress reactions, gathered religious and spiritual resources, and used these resources for self-care. Participants' beliefs, reactions to trauma work, and use of religion and humanistic spirituality to cope were evaluated by pre- and post-tests and audio-taped recordings of the group sessions. Unique findings showed a need for more education and training to increase the awareness of stress reactions and the benefits of using religious and spiritual resources for self-care.
