Abstract
  • The project addresses the failure of church marriage preparation programs to relate to the interior faith of engaged couples. The study holds that such relating is facilitated when couples are encouraged to tell their story in the context of the living tradition of the church. The study is exploratory, seeking to uncover dynamics and concepts relevant to story-based marriage preparation. It employs a phenomenological method to follow the journey of four couples through a program based on Cooper and Navone's narrative theology. The study concludes that the relating of the stories brings the church and the couple's faith into communion.
