- This study analyzed the experiences of ten church members participating as either counselors or clients in support groups within a church-based pastoral counseling center. The informants were selected on the basis of their commitment and level of participation in the center. This qualitative research encompassed a semistructured interview guide. Five clients and five counselors were interviewed to determine the effectiveness of using womanist theology in the development of a pastoral counseling center. The conclusion indicates that it is useful to use womanist theology in the development of a pastoral counseling center. The implication for pastoral counseling in the African American community is provided.
