- African-American women experience discrimination based on race and gender. They have developed coping strategies through their religious faith to deal with this double-bind. The integration of spiritual disciplines within the context of a psychological group process may be useful in helping African-American women overcome a sense of woundedness and achieve a better quality of life. The project director led two groups of African-American women from Payne Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church in psycho-spiritual process groups. The ministry project included the planning and facilitation of ten weekly ninety-minute group sessions, the development of a Healing the Wounded Woman Curriculum, and the implementation of a one-day retreat.
